Transition
As part of our Reception Transition Program, we offer various opportunities for families to connect with us and establish a strong, collaborative partnership prior to your child commencing Reception at Ocean View P-12 College. Letters of offer, including key information and important dates, are sent to families in Term 3 for the following year’s intake and in Term 1 for mid-year enrolments.
Parent Meeting
We invite parents and caregivers to attend a meeting with our Head of Primary Years and other members of the Primary Years Leadership Team. This meeting is held in the Primary Years staffroom and provides important information regarding the commencement of the school year. We highly encourage your attendance, as your insights and participation are greatly valued.
Transition Visits
Transition visits take place in our Reception classrooms throughout the month of November each year for those starting in January and in June for our mid-year Receptions. During these visits, your child will experience a typical morning at Ocean View College, helping them to become familiar with the school environment and begin building relationships with staff and future classmates. These sessions are carefully designed to support children in feeling confident and comfortable as they start their school journey.
Further details about specific dates and times for transition visits will be provided to families in advance each year.
Ocean View College is committed to supporting students and families as they transition into Year 7. Our comprehensive transition process consists of three key events throughout the year prior to commencement. These events are designed to ensure that both students and their families feel informed and supported as they join our school community.
At the beginning of Term 3, families will receive a welcome letter containing important information about the upcoming transition events. These materials will provide details regarding our Learner Profile Interviews, Start Well Parent Evening and Welcome Days, ensuring you are well-informed and prepared for your child’s transition into Year 7 at Ocean View College.
Learner Profile Interviews
Learner Profile Interviews take place in November each year. This is an opportunity for students and their parents or caregivers to meet with our Middle Years Team. During these interviews, we will discuss your young person’s learning, social and wellbeing needs so that we can best support their transition into the middle years.
During the Learner Profile Interviews, families will receive comprehensive information packs containing all you need to know about Ocean View P-12 College. These packs include important details about our Laptop Program, permission forms and other essential information to help you and your child prepare for the year ahead. Families will be invited to book interview times via Eventbrite.
Start Well Parent Evening
The Start Well Parent Evening takes place in late November each year. This evening consists of a presentation for you to learn about Ocean View College, our learning opportunities and processes. Following the formal presentation there will be an informal BBQ where you and your young person will be able to talk with key staff to answer any questions you may have. Families will be invited to book interview times via Eventbrite.
Welcome Days
Welcome Days (common transition days) are traditionally held at the beginning of December. During these days, incoming students will experience a typical school day at Ocean View College. They will participate in a variety of activities across different learning areas, make new friends and strengthen existing relationships.
