Student Device Program

Student Device Program & BYOD Program

Ocean View P-12 College is committed to providing students with an engaging learning experience that reflects the increasing use of digital technologies in our ever-changing global society.

Advances in technology have provided new opportunities for students to connect, show understanding, think creatively, problem solve and work collaboratively.

Our school vision is for all students to participate in the Student Device Program (SDP) at OVC. This participation means all students can engage in positive learning opportunities that will improve learning outcomes and develop skills that will be beneficial throughout their lives and careers.

As part of the Department for Education’s Student Device Policy, Ocean View College will be providing a subsidised Student Device Program to all students in Year 7 – Year 12, in conjunction with our BYOD Program.

Students participating in the Student Device Program will have exclusive possession of a school managed laptop that is connected to the schools network resources.

Students may use these devices at school and at home. This will provide access to School based systems and resources including the College’s Internet (whilst at school), E-Mail, Microsoft Office Applications, Daymap, secure cloud data and file storage and printing services whilst being managed and supported by the College’s ICT Department.

Please consider the following options:

Option 1 - Student Device Program

How does the program work?

The Student Device Program is an annual cost to parents/guardians over a 3-year period.

The annual fee enables 24/7 access for the student to a personal device.
This fee covers the costs of all school licensed software, carry case, technical support from school-based ICT staff, cost of accidental damage insurance premiums, warranty repairs and maintenance arranged by school ICT staff and access to a loan device during repairs.

The annual fee is $180 (Termly payment plans of $45 per term are available)

For families approved for School Card the annual fee is $45.
This fee is to cover Accidental Damage Protection, carry case, and a replacement charger.

At the end of the 3-year period the device is returned to the school. This also applies should the student leave the school.

Students in Year 10 can opt to renew their involvement in the program or purchase an approved BYOD. If they renew their involvement they will be issued with a brand new device, bag, charger and all warranties reset.

Accidental Damage Protection Insurance is provided as part of this program. This Insurance allows for 1 Accidental Damage repair per calendar year.
Parents will be financially liable for the full cost of all repairs or replacement of device if lost/stolen or damaged beyond Accidental Damage Protection terms and conditions

Formal ownership of the device remains with the school which allows for the deployment of Department for Education licensed software, warranty management and ICT support and repairs on the device. Ownership remains with the school upon leaving the College.
Students who leave Ocean View College:

  • Must return the device in good working condition to the school. (Including supplied bag and Power Adapter)

Should the Device not be returned or returned in an unacceptable state you will be charged the full cost of the device.

The Student Device Program opt in form will be provided at time of enrolment, if needed please see the Front Office for the form.

Students selecting this option will have exclusive use of the device plus bundled software until either the end of Year 9 / Year 12 or at the point they opt out of the program.
(Opting out of the Student Device Program will require the Student to participate in Option 2 – BYOD Program. Proof of purchase from the OVC BYOD Portal is required)

Option 2 - BYOD Program

Students who choose not to participate in the Student Device Program must bring their own device. This device must be purchased from our BYOD Order Portal with Learning With Technologies (LWT) https://ocean.orderportal.com.au/ to ensure they meet the standards set in the Student Device Policy and enables us to provide the same enterprise level of ICT support.

Ocean View College ICT Department will only be joining, configuring and supporting
student personal devices that have been purchased through the above portal or purchased through another schools device program.

Any devices that have been previously configured by ICT up until this point can continue being used however, it is recommended that you look into purchasing a device from the options available in the portal or opting into the Student Device Program.

If either of the above options are not suitable for you, please contact the relevant Head of Sub School or Wellbeing Leader to discuss options available.

Ocean View College is committed to being cyber-safe. Computer Use Agreements will apply to all students using the school’s ICT resources and infrastructure, both in and out of school hours.

Students who do not to participate in the Student Device Program or Bring Your Own Device Program will have access to a pool of daily loan devices from the school when required. These devices are limited and will not be available for take home borrowing, students will be responsible for these devices at all times. Any misuse of these devices may result in access to these devices being withdrawn.

An Acceptable Use Agreement signed by parents and students will outline care and management responsibilities.
