9 Wood Technology

Wood Technology students will use the Design Cycle as a vehicle to design, plan and evaluate a creative and useful product. They will produce a folio to document their investigating, designing, planning, making and evaluating work.

The students will learn and use a new range of skills and processes to produce a successful final product. They will also be instructed in the Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) for a selection of woodworking machines not used in the year 8 course. Wood joining systems, including nailing and screwing, will be learnt and used.

The elements of the Design Cycle will be followed to construct a small, free-standing cabinet designed for a specific purpose. The students will produce a series of scaled working drawings and a materials cutting list before making their product.
