Exceptional communication skills are paramount to success in the workplace - lucky English is the study of communication.
In Year 8 English students study the art and science of communication. They will analyse and critique a variety of classic and contemporary texts including novels, drama, poetry, magazines, news media articles and film. They will be taught and will practise essay writing, creative writing and poetry as well as oral and visual communication techniques. Furthermore, they will gain a critical understanding of persuasive techniques that industry, peers and society use on them and that they too can take advantage of. Of course this will be complemented with continued focus and development of students’ basic skills in spelling, vocabulary, grammar and comprehension.
Overall English aims to create a more articulate, astute and analytical student.
